Trip Description: Below is the description of Days 1 to 5 of our 52Best trip to Greece including our cruise on the Mediterranean on the cruise ship, Royal Olympic Triton. Day 1 - November 3, 2004 - Wednesday Detroit International Airport (DTW) is where we meet to fly on Northwest Airlines to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport (AMS). We connect there with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to continue to Athens International Airport (ATH).

                                      

Day 2 - November 4, 2004 - Thursday:  Athens. The KLM flight's estimated time of arrival  is 2:25 p.m. on Thursday. We will be met on arrival where we will have a short city orientation tour en route to the Hotel Herodion which is Athen's most ideally located hotel being in the heart of the old city district just a few minutes walk from the Acropolis, the atmospheric back streets of the Plaka, the Herodes Atticus ancient theater and the new museum of the Acropolis. Day 3 - November 5, 2004 - Friday:  Athens  American Breakfast, Dinner. Morning is free. Afternoon drive to Cape Sounion where we will visit the 5th century Temple of Poseidon which is one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world. Dinner will be at a local Greek restaurant.

                                      

Day 4 - November 6, 2004 - Saturday:  Athens.  American Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Morning - Drive through Athens and see the most attractive places of the Ancient City (Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, Theatre of Dionyssus, Temple of Hephaistus, Ancient Agora) and the modern city (Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, House of Parliament, Presidential Palace, Panathenaic Stadium -where the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896. Lunch in a local restaurant. Finally, visit of the Acropolis, the museum of Acropolis, and the architectural masterpieces of the Erechteum Temple, the Propylae, the Temple of Athen and the Herod Atticus Theatre, which for four months every summer attracts the world's best musicians, dance troupes, and theatre groups. Evening - Pasta dinner in the hotel in preparation for Athens Classic Marathon tomorrow. Everyone is invited.

                                        

Day 5 - November 7, 2004 - Sunday: Athens. American Breakfast and snacks. Free morning and afternoon or run the Athens Classic Marathon or the Mini-Marathon of 9.2km.  Please click 52Best Marathon Details for our information on the marathon. What a fantastic experience as you trace the steps of Ancient Greece’s runners. This is the original 1896 Olympic Marathon course which will also be used for the 2004 Olympic games. The Marathon starts from the Marathon Village and ends at the Panathinaiko Stadium in the Center of Athens. Transfers to and from start and finish of race included. For the evening enjoy a dinner with Greek music in a taverna in Plaka the ancient part of Athens.
