Why the New Home: "The decision to relocate a second home outside of Nairobi was reached after a lot of considerations, First, it is so expensive to maintain food programs while the Home is in Nairobi since the number of the kids keeps increasing so rapidly. We will reach a time when we will not be able to have enough food or housing for them through donations from well wishers. If the primary home is outside Nairobi, the home can grow food produced from our own land and we will have space to grow. Secondly, things in Kisumu are very cheap compared to Nairobi. Third, the environment matters a lot. Since I was brought up as an orphaned child, I do not want to see orphan kids being influenced by the environment and make them useless people by engaging in criminal activities." Francis

Purchase of Property: Because of the many donations of friends throughout the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, the Home has been able to acquire and take title to two and a half acres on the main road 1 mile from Kisumu which is the third largest city in Kenya and next to Lake Victoria. For a map of Kenya showing Kisumu please click here. To view pictures of the new property, please see below.

Plans for Buildings: Francis the Headmaster has been able to raise in Kenya 50,000 Shillings for a small office building on site which will include a phone and enable him to begin the construction of the first major building to house students and staff.

Grand Opening:  Francis, the staff, and the kids are extremely excited about the property for the new Home and the plans for the new buildings. He would like to now invite us to the "Grand Opening" of the new Sandy Happy Children's Home July 7th of 2007. Please put this date on your calendar now and plan to attend.
